Ever since the Colonial era, thanks to the fact that Puebla has the ideal raw materials, unequaled hand crafts have flourished here. The technique of the Franciscan friars combined with the natural artistic abilities of the indigenous people resulted in the creation of true works of art. Proof of this is found in the Talavera ceramics, the stucco work, the stone carving and the forged iron work. On another plane, pre-Hispanic techniques survived and brought us other beautiful forms of hand crafts such as the amate paper, embroidered textiles, palm weaving, black, red and natural pottery. In reality, every region has a typical and representative hand craft which forms a part of the treasure of Puebla.
